Wellesley’s Kimball Selected for USRowing Pre-Elite National Team Camp

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College junior rower Becca Kimball was one of eight athletes invited to the prestigious USRowing Pre-Elite National Team Camp this summer. Kimball, a Weston, Mass., native, is the only Division-III athlete invited to camp and is the first Wellesley rower in history to earn a spot.

Kimball rows as a starboard in the Wellesley varsity eight boat, leading the Blue to two-straight NCAA third place finishes. She currently holds the team 2K and 6K erg records.

"This USRowing program is very competitive and Becca will have the great fortune of working with amazing Division-I athletes, as well as one of the most successful college coaches in the country," said Wellesley head coach, Tessa Spillane. "Becca's hard work has certainly paid off thus far, and I am certain she will make huge gains over the summer and far into the future."

The Pre-Elite Camp focuses on developing athletes for the United States Under-23 and Senior National Teams. The goal of the camp is to teach skills necessary to compete at the elite level by introducing and developing sculling, gaining fitness and increasing strength to weight ratio. Athletes will train intensely with 2-3 practices per day. They will primarily scull, and they will have opportunities to scrimmage or race during the camp.

The 2013 camp will take place at Syracuse University, under the direction of Syracuse Head Coach, Justin Moore. It will start July 8th and athletes will most likely compete at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta to wrap up the summer.

The Wellesley College crew team will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to take on Williams and William Smith.
