Blue Crew Solid in Second Race of the Weekend
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- In their second racing action of the weekend, the Wellesley College crew team had a solid performance against #2 Bates and #8 WPI on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday.
In the varsity eight race, the Blue ranked second overall, but made up over eight seconds on Bates from yesterday's race. The Bobcats finished just over a second faster than the Blue, recording a time of 6:52.5 to Wellesley's 6:53.64. WPI ranked third in the race with a 7:00.35.
The Blue second varsity battled technical issues with their cox-box, but recovered to post a time of 7:18.72. Bates won the race in 6:59, while WPI finished second in 7:18.72.
In the third varsity race, Wellesley staved off a significant cross-tail wind, to finish second overall. Bates won with a 7:13.5, while the Blue posted a 7:27.32. WPI finished third in 7:31.23.
Racing in the final spot of the day, Wellesley's novice eight has a fantastic race, dominating the three-team field. The Blue finished first with a time of 7:27.60, defeating Bates (7:35.92) and WPI (7:45.09).
Up next for the Blue, the team will look to defend its NEWMAC crown on Saturday back at Lake Quinsigamond. Wellesley comes into the race as the two-time defending champion in both the NEWMAC title race and the overall points trophy. Racing begins at 8:30am.
