Crew's Lamy Earns All-America Honors; 10 Named National Scholar-Athletes

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College crew student-athlete Jennifer Lamy led the Wellesley representation on the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) post-season awards, being named to the Division III Pocock All-America Team. In addition to Lamy's honor, 10 team members were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes.

Lamy, a senior, was named to the All-America first team for the second time in her career, after earning the recognition in 2011. The Chester, N.H. native becomes the fourth-straight first-team All-America selection under head coach Tessa Spillane. Lamy led the Blue to the team's fourth-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, where they placed fifth overall. A team captain for Wellesley, Lamy took home the Blue's highest athletic honor, being named the Barbara Barnes Hauptfuhrer Scholar-Athlete earlier this year.

Lamy also led a record 10 Wellesley selections to the National Scholar-Athlete team, and was one of just three first-team All-Americans to also earn the academic honor. Lamy and fellow seniors Kathryn Goffin and Tess Ruderman all made their third appearance on the National Scholar-Athlete team. Lamy completed a double major in Economics and Environmental Studies, Goffin, also a Wellesley diver, graduated with a degree in Psychology, and Ruderman finished her Mathematics degree.

Also earning repeat selection as a National Scholar-Athlete was senior Aidan Chambers. A Biology major, Chambers also earned the recognition in 2012.

Five Wellesley athletes made earned their first selection to the national academic team, including senior Rachel Coogan, juniors Ildi Gaal and Becca Kimball, and sophomores Loren Lock, Emma Reuder, and Claire Tam. Coogan completed her degree in Spanish and Education in May, while attending the NCAA Championships. Gaal is a Neuroscience major, while Kimball is a double major in Economics and Spanish. Rounding out the honorees, Lock is a Biological Sciences major, Reuder is an Economics major and Tam is a Political Sciences major.

The Wellesley College crew team concluded the season with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships. The Blue also won the NEWMAC and Seven Sisters titles this season.

All-American candidates are nominated by their institution, and are selected based on their season record, strength of schedule, 2k score, and coach's recommendation. National Scholar-Athletes are recognized in their second through fourth years of eligibility for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher during their career.
