Blue Crew Varsity 8+ Takes Tenth at Head of the Housatonic

DERBY, Conn. -- Wellesley College crew opened the team's 2019-20 campaign on Saturday at the annual Head of the Housatonic on the Housatonic River. The Blue competed in three events, highlighted by a tenth place finish in the Division I Collegiate Women's 8+.

The Wellesley Varsity 8+, stroked by returning All-American Rhiannon Mulligan (Santa Cruz, Calif.) finished with a time of 15:25.5 to take 10th overall. Wellesley was the only Division III team in the field in the Collegiate Eights, as the Blue Second Varsity 8+, stroked by first year Amelia Lee (Hong Kong) finished 26th (16:39.1) and the Third Varsity 8+ with stroke Anna Taylor (Burke, Va.) took the 29th (16:59.0) spot.

Wellesley closed out the day by taking second in both the Novice 8+ and Collegiate Women's 4+. Stroked by first year Loey Bull (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) the Novice 8+ finished with a time of 18:29.0 to take second. The Blue's 2nd Novice 8+, with stroke Clare Maleeny (New York, N.Y.), took fourth in 22:19.0. Wellesley's Varsity 4+, with stroke Emma Anghel (Windham, Maine), was second in 18:09.0.

Wellesley will compete next Sunday, October 20, at The 55th Head Of The Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston. The Women's Collegiate Eights heats event is scheduled to begin at 3:02 PM.
