Wellesley Crew’s V8+ Earns First National Invitational Rowing Championship Win in Program History

WORCESTER, Mass. - No. 1 Wellesley College crew's varsity eight boat earned their first victory in program history at the 2023 National Invitational Rowing Championship on Friday at Lake Quinsigamond. 

With the NCAA National Championship fast approaching on May 26-27 at Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, N.J. Blue Crew continued to find success against the top Division III rowing programs in the country.

The V8+ finished first with a 7:05.760 in the opening heat to punch their ticket to the grand final. Wellesley was in top form in the final, with their blink and you'll miss it time of 6:39.093 driving the Blue past second place Tufts for a gold medal finish.

Blue Crew's 2V8+ finished with open water to capture the top spot in the opening heat with a time of 7:15.462, securing a spot in the grand final. Wellesley went on to take fourth in the final, breaking the seven-minute mark with a 6:55.138 to finish ahead of Williams and Hamilton, while Wesleyan won the 2V8+ final.

Wellesley's 3V8+ took second in the opening heat and earned a place in the grand final. Blue Crew had a time of 7:21.568, second to only Tufts. The 3V8+ later shaved off 16 seconds in the grand final to place fifth with a 7:04.841.

In the open V4+ division Wellesley earned third with an 8:18.796 while New Hampshire won the race.
