Season Preview: 2023-24 Wellesley Crew

Wellesley Crew Varsity Eight +, Head Coach Tessa Spillane, Colette Kennedy '25 (Frank Poulin & Carlisle Stockton)

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College crew will open the 2024 spring season at the Washington College Invitational in Chestertown, Md. on Saturday, March 23. The link to the team's schedule can be found here.

Head Coach: Tessa Spillane (18th Season)

Captains: Britany Hansten '24 (Los Angeles, Calif.) , Marty Martinage '24 (Arlington, Va.)

Last Season: 1st at NEWMAC Championships

Postseason: 1st at 2023 NCAA Division III Championships

Coach's Outlook:

"This awesome group has been accepting every challenge and opportunity presented to them - building speed, camaraderie, and confidence. We are eager to get back to the water and start racing! Until then, we just keep hunting for more together."

The team received second in the NEWMAC Preseason Poll
Six members of the 2023 National Championship Varsity Eight +, Anya Hanitchak (Andover, Mass.), Catie Moeser, Kaitlyn Severin (Newton, Mass.), Sage Gilbert-Diamond (Hanover, N.H.), Hannah Bates (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Kaylee Liu (Acton, Mass.) return to Blue Crew in 2024.
Hanitchak has made the NEWMAC All-Conference Team twice.
Wellesley's coaching staff of Spillane, Associate Head/Novice Coach Emilie Muller and Assistant Coach Emilia Ball '19 received the 2023 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division III National Coach and Coaching Staff of the Year award.
The trio were also named the NEWMAC Coaching Staff of the Year and Spillane was recognized as the National Invitational Rowing Championship Women's Coach of the Year.
The Blue are set to race in eight regattas this spring.
The NEWMAC Championships will be hosted by WPI at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, April 27.
