Blue Crew Places 20 on NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its 2024 Rowing Academic All-Conference Team. 20 members of the Wellesley College crew have received the honor.

Seven seniors led the way for the Blue. Bryn Flanigan (Denver, Colo.), Marty Martinage (Arlington, Va.), Kaitlyn Severin (Newton, Mass.) and Rachel Shrives (Harvard, Mass.) are each Academic All-Conference members for a third consecutive year. Classmates Katherine Moeser and Anya Hanitchak (Andover, Mass.) both receive a second Academic All-Conference honor while Kaylee Liu (Acton, Mass.) makes her debut on the team.

Making the list for the second straight year were juniors Mel Daniels (Wilmington, Del.), Claire Johnson (Lexington, Mass.), and Colette Kennedy (Mill Valley, Calif.).

Sophomores Bronnie Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.), Hannah Bates (Fair Haven, N.J.), Sage Gilbert-Diamond (Hanover, N.H.), Caroline Hester (Washington, D.C.), Mara Jones (Decatur, Ga.), Natalie McGee (Wellesley, Mass.), Jude Mohammad (Kuwait City, Kuwait), Marina West (Friday Harbor, Wash.), Caroline Witty (Framingham, Mass.) and Maryam Zad (Peabody, Mass.) all collect the accolade in their first year of eligibility.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2023 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) consists of 12 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Salve Regina University, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
