CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College fencing squad secured three victories at the first New England Conference Meet of the season on Saturday at MIT. The Blue defeated the University of Massachusetts, the University of New Hampshire and Boston University while also competing against host MIT, Brown, Brandeis, and Sacred Heart.

The Blue opened the day with back-to-back defeats at the hands of MIT and Brown before bouncing back against UMass. The Blue took 6-3 victories in both foil and epee and won three bouts in sabre to hang on for a 15-12 team victory versus the Minutemen.

Brandeis and Sacred Heart then went on to defeat the Blue by identical 18-9 finals, despite the Blue taking a 5-4 victory in foil versus the Judges and a 5-4 victory in epee versus the Pioneers.

Wellesley hit its stride in the final two match-ups of the day, as the Blue defeated both UNH and BU, 15-12. The foil fencers took a 7-2 victory, while the sabre crew also grabbed a 5-4 victory in the match-up with the Wildcats. Versus the Terriers, the sabre fencers again had a strong performance, winning by a 6-3 margin.

Individually, Taylor Hood and Pamela Wang led the foil fencers for the Blue, earning 12 and 11 victories, respectively. Olivia Wei also added four victories in nine bouts while Camille Samulski earned a pair of victories to round out the total in foil.
