Wellesley To Host NEIFC Fencing Championships on Saturday

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College fencing will host the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC) Championships on Saturday, March 2, at Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse. Admission for the event is free and competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.

The Championships are a team tournament where team, squad, and individual champions are crowned. The team competition consists of one round-robin pool. Every team will fence every other team during this pool. Each contest between two squads will consist of three bouts per weapon. Twelve fencers per weapon will advance to the individual competition.

Wellesley last hosted the event in 2016, finishing in the seventh place in the overall team standings. In the squad standings, the Blue took sixth in foil, and eighth in both sabre and epee. This year's team will be looking to improve upon last year's third place finish after finishing the 2018-19 regular season with a program record 23 victories in all team competitions. 

The NEIFC is a league focused on supporting and developing intercollegiate fencing programs in and around New England. The NEIFC hosts two tournaments each season: the Fall Invitational (The Big One), usually held the first Saturday in November, and the Championships, usually held in late February.
