Blue Golf Places Ninth at NYU Invitational

SUFFERN, N.Y. -- The Wellesley College golf team competed at its first tournament of the 2013-14 season, recording a ninth place finish at the NYU Invitational. The two-day event was held at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course.

Wellesley shot team totals of 358 and 373, to finish with a final score of 731. The Blue ranked ninth out of 11 teams, coming in ahead of Liberty League opponents, William Smith and Union.

Williams won the tournament with a two-day total of 625, followed by Middlebury (652) and the host, NYU (653). Taking individual honors were St. Lawrence's Claire O'Neil and SUNY Cortland's Rebecca Studin, who each shot two-day totals of 148.

For Wellesley, sophomore Lei Wei was the top finisher. She used rounds of 89 and 91 (180) to tie for 36th place overall, out of 60 participants. Junior Alexandria Lee was Wellesley's next finisher, ranking 40th, with scores of 90 and 92 for a 182 total.

Also competing for the Blue were first-year Jacqueline Lu, junior Michelle Brann, and senior Lindsey Shepardson. Lu finished 44th with a 186 (90-96), Brann placed 47th with a 191 (89-102), and Shepardson ranked 49th with a 193 (99-94).

Wellesley golf returns to action next weekend at the two-day Mount Holyoke Invitational.
