Blue Golf Tees Off at NYU Invitational

SUFFERN, N.Y. - The Wellesley College golf team began the NYU Invitational Tournament by totaling a team score of 353. The Blue are currently in an eighth place tie with Union College after Saturday's opening round. The event was held at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course.

Williams College takes an eight-stroke lead into day two over the host school, NYU. The Ephs are paced by day one leader, junior Sophie Kitchen (Collingwood, Ontario). Kitchen was the only player under par on the day, as she carries a four-stroke lead into day two.

Individually, Wellesley was led by first-year Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China) who recorded a top-15 finish on day-one  Jin is in a tie for fourteenth place, and sits in a crowded field with 18 golfers separated by five strokes or less.

First-year Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.), senior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.), and first-year Katie Lee (Portland, Ore.) were the Blue's next top-scorers. All three golfers had a strong first day, with Vandayar carding a 90, followed by Wei and Lee in a tie for 41st place with an opening round score of 91.

The Blue golf team will complete play at the NYU Invitational on Sunday and are back in action next weekend at the Mount Holyoke Invitational.
