Wellesley Golf Competes in NYU Invitational Tournament

SUFFERN, N.Y. - The Wellesley College golf team opened its 2015-16 tournament schedule by competing at the NYU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The event was held at the par-72, 5,812-yard Spook Rock Golf Course.

The Blue finished 10th overall, carding team scores of 353 and 344. Williams College took the team title and NYU finished as runner-up at their home event, recording two-day totals of 614 and 621, respectively.

Individually, Wellesley was led by Amy (Zilin) Jin (Shenzhen, China), who recorded a top-25 finish. Jin, a first year, finished with scores of 81 and 85 for a two-day total of 166. Williams College golfers Sophie Kitchen (Collingwood, Ontario) and Phoebe Mattana (Demarest, N.J.) helped the Ephs secure the win, recording the tournaments' top-two overall scores.

First year Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and senior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.) were the Blue's next top-scorers. Both Vandayar and Wei improved their scores on day-two, with Vandayar improving by six strokes (90, 84), and Wei bettering her day-one total by five strokes (91, 86).

The Blue golf team is back in action at the two-day Mount Holyoke Invitational next weekend. The event will take place at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass.
