Wellesley Hosts the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Williams College leads after the first day of play at the Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational, hosted by Wellesley College. Now in its eighth year, the tournament is held at the par-72, 5,860-yard Nehoiden Golf Course.

Williams, the current five-time defending champion at the event, recorded a day one total of 309. The Ephs have a 7-stroke lead over second-place NYU after the first day of play. Wellesley sits in sixth place after recording a day-one score of 347. 

Individually, every Williams golfer finished in the top nine. Williams first year Phoebe Mattana (Demerest, N.J.) leads the group with a 75, with NYU sophomore Angela Jang (Irvine, Calif.) right behind her in second with a 76.

Wellesley will enter day-two in sixth place.  First year Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) leads the team with a day-one score of 82. She is in a tie for 16th out of 48 competitors. Senior Lei Wei (Brentwood, Calif.) and first year Amy Jin (Shenzhen, China) shot matching scores of 88, good for a tie in 28th place. Blue sophomore Maya Muldowney (Madison, Wis.) trails them by one stroke after recording a first-round score of 89.

The tournament continues tomorrow morning with the second and final round beginning at 10:00am.
