Wellesley Golf Takes Fourth Place at Centre Invitational in Tampa

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Wellesley College golf turned in a consistent team performance on day two of the Jim English/Centre College Invitational to finish in fourth place in the team standings at the par-70, 5,891-yard Saddlebrook Course near Tampa, Florida.

As a team the Blue finished at 361 strokes on Saturday after totaling 360 on Friday. Host Centre took the title with a final round score of 319 to finish the weekend at 655. 

Playing as an individual, first year Devyani Kalra (Short Hills, N.J.) was the highest finisher for the Blue. Kalra dropped eight strokes off of her opening day 92, shooting an 84 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 12th place. Sophomore Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) matched Kalra on day two, shooting a second round 84 to drop 11 strokes from her opening day total of 95 and finish in 16th place.

First year Rosey Li (Princeton, N.J.) dropped two strokes from her day one score to finish in a tie for 17th with a 90. Junior Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) also shaved one stroke off of her opening round score to card a 93. Vandayar was 23rd overall. 

After shooting an opening round 83, sophomore Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) carded a 95 on day two to drop into 15th place on the final leaderboard. Senior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) rounded out the team score with a 94 on Saturday, finishing in 20th place overall.

Playing as individuals, sophomore Olivia de Cuba (Bilthoven, Netherlands) added a score of 91 to take 19th, while Naomi Kim (Troy, Mich.) and Abby Zong (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished T24th and 27th, respectively. Kim improved 17 strokes on Saturday, dropping from 103 strokes on Friday to 86 during her second round. 

Wellesley golf will return to action in April at the annual Vassar College Invitational. First round play is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, at Casperkill G.C. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
