Vandayar Drops 12 Strokes To Lead Blue Golf on Day Two at Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – Wellesley College golf dropped five strokes on the second day of the 2018 Jack Leaman Invitational to take sixth overall after two days of competition at the Par 72, 5,806 yard Amherst Golf Club.

The Blue carded a total of 343 strokes on day two following an opening round mark of 348 to finish at 691 strokes. Tournament host Amherst College earned the team title with a two-day total of 634. NYU (637) finished in second and Williams (641) took third. Amherst first year Isabelle Ouyang (Edina, Minn.) maintained her day one lead to earn individual medalist honors with a final round 80.

Wellesley senior Maya Muldowney (Waunakee, Wis.) dropped a stroke from her opening round 86 to lead the Blue in 31st place (171). Muldowney was followed by first year teammate Rosey Li (Princeton, N.J.), who finished one stroke back in 32nd place (172). Blue junior Annika Vandayar (Garnet Valley, Pa.) saw the biggest improvement on day two, dropping 12 strokes from her opening round 95 to shoot the top round of the day for the Blue with an 83. Vandayar took 36th place (178) in the individual standings. 

Rounding out the weekend for Wellesley, sophomores Isabelle Chun (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Ryan MacVicar (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) finished in a tie for 37th with matching two-day totals of 179. Playing as an individual, first year Abby Zhong (Mercer Island, Wash.) dropped two strokes from a day one 92 to finish with a total of 182.

Wellesley golf will travel to Appleton Golf Club in Canton, N.Y. next Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29, for the 2018 Liberty League Championships.
