Wellesley Golf in First After Day One of Polar Bear Shootout; Sun Leads Individual Competition

BRUNSWICK, MAINE – Wellesley College golf first year Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) carded a 74 (+1) and sits atop the individual leaderboard after day one of the Polar Bear Shootout hosted by Bowdoin at the Par-73, 5,702 yard Brunswick Golf Club. Wellesley's "Blue" team, which includes Sun, shot a 311 to lead the team competition.

Wellesley's "Blue" team is followed by Bates (325), host Bowdoin (331), and then the Wellesley "White" team (332) in fourth. Trinity (343), Babson (343), Suffolk (349), and Husson (371) round out the competition.

Sun hit four birdies to lead the pack on Saturday. The Wellesley Blue team consists of Sun, fellow first years Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.), Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.), and Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.), and junior Norah Catlin (Wesley Chapel, Fla.). Wang and Lewis are in third and fourth place after one day with a 77 (+4) and 78 (+5) respectively. Bajpai and Catlin shot an 82 and 93 to round out the team.

The Wellesley White team is made up of sophomores Lucia Chen (Horseheads, N.Y.) and Ashley Cong (Troy, Mich.), as well as first years Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.), Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand), and Maria Li (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). Yeh and Du each shot an 80 (+7) to tie for seventh overall. Li carded an 85 while Chen and Cong both had an 87 after the round.

Round two of the Polar Bear Shootout tees off at 11:30 AM tomorrow.
