Wellesley Earns First, Second at Polar Bear Shootout; Sun Wins Individual Competition

BRUNSWICK, MAINE – Wellesley College golf's "Blue" team had a team score of 626 (311-315) to win the Polar Bear Shootout at the Par-73, 5,702 yard Brunswick Golf Club on Sunday. Additionally, first year Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) won the individual competition with a score of 150 (74-76) for the weekend.

Wellesley's "White" team shot a 311 on Sunday to finish in second place with a score of 643 (332-311). Bates placed third with a score of 653, followed by host Bowdoin (668), Babson (678), Suffolk (679), Trinity (689), and Husson (741).

Sun won the individual competition in her first collegiate tournament. First year Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) carded a 73 (E) with a trio of birdies to take second place with a score of 151(78-73). Wellesley "White" squad first year Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) shaved four strokes off of yesterday's round to finish in third place with a score of 156 (80-76). Classmate Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) tied for fourth by carding a 157 (80-77).

Rounding out the Wellesley "Blue" team was first years Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) (158 - 77-81), Kaurvaki Bajpai (Chantilly, Va.) (167 - 82-85) and junior Norah Catlin (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) (180 - 93-87).

Sophomore Ashley Cong (Troy, Mich.) also broke 80 for the Wellesley "White" squad on Sunday to finish the weekend with a165 (87-78). First year Maria Li (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) shot a 167 (85-82) for the weekend as did sophomore Lucia Chen (Horseheads, N.Y.) (87-80).

Next weekend, Wellesley travels to Middlebury, Vt. to take part in the George Phinney Classic at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club.
