Wellesley Golf in Sixth After Day One of George Phinney Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Wellesley College golf braved the windy conditions to finish sixth in the standings after day one at the George Phinney Classic hosted by Middlebury at the Par-71, 6007 yard Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

Williams leads the team competition with a score of 311, and New York U. trails by only one stroke in second with a score of 312. Hamilton sits in third place with a score of 317, followed by Amherst (322), Middlebury (326), and Wellesley (327). New York U. junior Nalinda Wanikpun (Bangkok, Thailand) leads the individual leaderboard with a score of 74 (+3).

First year Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) led the Blue with a 77 (+6) to tie for fifth in the individual competition. Classmate Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) was only one stroke behind Wang with a 78 (+7).

Rounding out the Blue were first years Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.), Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.), and Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.), who shot an 84 (+13), 88 (+17), and 92 (+21) respectively.

Senior Marilyn Fang (Beijing, China) played as an individual and carded an 84 (+13)

Round two of the George Phinney Classic will begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM.
