Wellesley Golf Ties for Second at Liberty League Championship

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – Wellesley College golf finished in a tie for second place at the 2024 Liberty League Women's Golf Championship at the Par-72, 5,627-Yard, Pinehaven Country Club. 

The Blue opened play on Sunday six strokes back of the lead but ultimately could not catch first place New York University, as the Violets captured the Liberty League title for the third consecutive year and the eighth time in the last nine years. Paced by individual medalist Michelle Zhou (Keller, Texas), NYU ran away from the field on Sunday, shooting 297 (+9) to finish with a total of 605 (+29) on the weekend. Zhou went one-under on Sunday, adding a final day 71 to an opening round 77 to finish +4 for the weekend.

Wellesley tied for second with Ithaca College in the team standings. The Blue shot 309 on Sunday after posting a team score of 314 on Saturday to close with an overall score of 623 (+47). Ithaca dropped 13 strokes on Sunday, posting a team score of 305 to match Wellesley's 623 weekend total. Vassar (679) finished in fourth place, Union (769) was fifth and Saint Lawrence (782) was sixth in the team standings.

Wellesley first year Aileen Du (Auckland, New Zealand) earned Liberty League All-Conference First Team honors with a fourth place finish, shooting 76 on Sunday to finish +9 for the tournament (77-76-153).

First year Audrey Wang (Fremont, Calif.) moved up one spot on the leaderboard on Sunday, finishing in eighth place (+12) and earning Liberty League All-Conference Second Team honors with a total score of 156 (79-77). Classmate Sarah Yeh (Danville, Calif.) also earned All-Conference Second Team accolades, finishing one stroke back (+13) of Wang in a tie for ninth (78-79-157). 

First year Grace Sun (San Diego, Calif.) fired a final round 78 to move up one spot and finish in a tie for eleventh at +14 (80-78-158). Sun earned All-Liberty League Honorable Mention honors for finishing T11. Classmate Sophia Lewis (Ventura, Calif.) finished at +16 to tie for 14th. Lewis dropped four strokes on Sunday following an opening round 82 (82-78-160).
