Wellesley Lacrosse's Sharkin Named To IWLCA All-Region Team

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College lacrosse senior Nikki Sharkin (Summit, N.J. has been named to the 2017 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region second team. 

A three-time New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference selection and a NEWMAC first team selection in 2017, Sharkin earns IWLCA All-Region honors for the first time in her career, following a senior season that included 42 goals, nine assists and 51 points in 17 games. Sharkin, who also added a team-high 66 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers, is the first IWLCA All-Region selection for the Blue lacrosse program since Claire Canty '15 in 2015.

A National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region first team selection this fall, Sharkin is the first Wellesley field hockey and lacrosse dual student-athlete to collect both honors since Jacy Edelman '99, and the first to do so in the same year since Wellesley Athletics Hall of Famer Jessica Gosnell '90 accomplished the feat in 1989-90.

The IWLCA has honored 256 student-athletes in Division III with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2017. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Friday, May 19. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American Banquet on Saturday June 3, 2017 at the Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, Md.
