MILTON, Mass. - Backed by big performances from senior Liz Sugg (Palermo, Maine) and sophomore Ashley You (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) Wellesley College lacrosse delivered an 11-5 win over Curry on Wednesday at Walter M. Katz Field.

Led by four goals from You and three from Sugg, the Blue (1-1) won a balanced game that saw many strong offensive and defensive performances. First year goalie Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) made her collegiate debut in net, saving 12 shots and picking up four ground balls to earn a win in net for Wellesley. Junior Gabrielle Shell (Upper Arlington, Ohio) had two goals and two assists for the Blue while You scooped a trio of ground balls and five draw controls.

The Colonels (2-1) were led by junior Chloe Chevrier (West Suffield, Conn.) with a goal, an assist, and five draw controls while sophomore Grayson Goolgasian (Johnston, R.I.) had a goal and grabbed a team-leading four ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Vivi Helquist (Proctor, Minn.) stopped seven shots for Curry.

You got the Blue on the board early with a pair of goals in the first four minutes before Wellesley first year Finley Tipton's (Coppell, Texas) first collegiate goal brought the Blue's lead to 3-0. The Blue upped their margin to 6-0 by the end of the first with You, Sugg, and Shell finding the back of the net. Shell and Tipton each had an assist in the quarter.

The second quarter highlighted defense with both teams scoring just once. Sugg knocked in her second goal of the game for the Blue while first year Ava Doyle (Lynnfield, Mass.) put the Colonels on the board.

Shell scored a second goal early in the third for Wellesley with an assist to junior Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) before Curry scored four unanswered goals to cut the lead to 8-5. Curry's scoring included a 12th season goal for Chevrier and a ninth season goal for Goolgosian.

Sugg completed a hat trick early in the fourth with Shell assisting on the play to give Wellesley a four-goal lead at 9-5. A few minutes later first year Camille Francis (Bowie, Md.) scored her inaugural collegiate goal off a pass from McGough. A late goal from You sealed the 11-5 game for the Blue.

The Blue outshot the Colonels 25-23, and Wellesley was efficient with their free position shots, making three of four. The Blue also had one more ground ball than Curry (20-19) while securing two more draw controls (11-9).

The Blue finish their two game road trip with a 12:00 PM game at New England College on Saturday. The Colonels begin their spring break trip to Clearwater, Fla. next Monday with an 11:00 AM game against Marywood.
