WELLESLEY, Mass. - Eight first quarter goals helped Coast Guard soundly defeat Wellesley College lacrosse 15-1 on Saturday in a New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game from Butler Stadium.

Junior Sarah Skurat (Marlboro, N.J.) was the Bears' (7-3 Overall, 3-0 NEWMAC) high scorer with four goals, while senior Gianna Cascio (Hunterdon County. N.J.) had four assists. Defensively, sophomore goalie Maici Mintchwarner (Cream Ridge, N.J.) stopped two shots and had a pair of ground balls for Coast Guard.

Junior Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) scored the lone goal for the Blue (2-7 Overall, 0-3 NEWMAC) when she skipped in a shot in the third. First year goalkeeper Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) made eight saves for the Blue while sophomore Julee Sharma (Lake Mary, Fla.) made her presence known defensively with six caused turnovers and five ground balls.

The Bears scored early and often, with eight goals in the first quarter, three coming courtesy of Skurat, while Cascio had four assists in the quarter. The second quarter was more defensive minded, with the Bears only scoring twice, including a second goal of the game from first year Abby McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) to lead 10-0 at the half.

CGA led 13-0 by the middle of the third with McAllister completing a hat-trick and Skurat scoring a fourth goal. McGough put the Blue on the board with her bounce in shot finding the back of the net for a fourth season goal. Coast Guard scored twice in the fourth quarter to finish off a 15-1 win.

The Bears outshot the Blue 32-5, while scooping up 25 ground balls to Wellesley's 16. Coast Guard converted on two of seven free position shots.
