Blue Lacrosse Triumphs over Clark, 16-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. - First year Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) tallied four goals and two assists for Wellesley College lacrosse as they toppled Clark 16-2 in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Saturday at Butler Stadium.

Saturday's game was dedicated to the One Love Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to end relationship violence and promote healthy relationships.

In addition to Tipton, juniors Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.), Gabrielle Shell (Upper Arlington, Ohio), and senior Liz Sugg (Palermo, Maine) each scored multiple goals for the Blue (3-8 Overall, 1-3 NEWMAC). On the defensive side, senior goalie Hannah Pangborn (Raleigh, N.C.) stopped six shots in net to earn the win while McGough caused a pair of turnovers and won six draw controls. 

Seniors Sophie Didier (Overland Park, Kan.) and Elizabeth Liakos (Arlington, Mass.) each scored for the Cougars (3-7 Overall, 0-4 NEWMAC) while classmate Maddie Conners (Devon, Pa.) made five saves in net. Junior Greer McCarty (White River Junction, Vt.) caused a turnover and fielded five ground balls for Clark. 

The Blue took a commanding 7-0 lead in the first quarter with first year Phoebe Calero (Havre de Grace, Md.), Tipton, Sugg, McGough, first year Camille Francis (Bowie, Md.), Shell, and first year Chloe Guntrip (Irvine, Calif.) each finding the back of the net for the Blue. Tipton also assisted on two goals in the quarter, while the Blue converted on three free position shots.

After Liakos put the Cougars on the board in the second it was back to aggressive offense from the Blue, with Tipton and sophomore Ryan Boone (Scotch Plains, N.J.) converting on free position shots before multiple goals from McGough and a goal from sophomore Mattie Knowles (Newburyport, Mass.) put Wellesley ahead 12-1 by halftime. 

The second half saw more success from the Blue with Sugg, Shell, and Tipton all adding on goals, while Didier scored the lone goal for Clark. Wellesley finished off a comfortable 16-2 win with one final goal from Tipton.

Wellesley commanded the offense, outshooting Clark 24-9. The Blue converted on seven of nine free position shots and won 15 draw controls to the Cougars' eight.

The Blue will battle NEWMAC opponent Emerson on the road at 6:00 PM on Wednesday while the Cougars host Springfield in their own NEWMAC game next Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
