Wellesley Lacrosse Stopped by MIT in Regular Season Finale

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Senior Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) registered four goals and four assists to lead No. 25 MIT to a 23-2 win over Wellesley College lacrosse in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on a rainy Wednesday night at Butler Stadium.

In addition to Rabenold increasing her total season goals to a NEWMAC best 74, first year Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) scored five goals with an assist, senior Lindsey Gambino (Garden City, N.Y.) had a trio of goals and assists, and sophomore Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) had four goals with two assists for the Engineers (15-2 Overall, 9-0 NEWMAC). MIT utilized a heavy barrage of offense to outshoot Wellesley 46 to 5.

First year Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) won eight draw controls for MIT and junior Meredith Arterburn won seven. Senior Abigail Koyler (Manhasset, N.Y.) and first year Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) each recorded a save for the Engineers.

First year Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) scored both goals for the Blue (5-11 Overall, 3-6 NEWMAC), including her 30th goal of the season late in the fourth. First year goalie Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) stopped seven shots in net for the Blue while senior Hannah Pangborn (Raleigh, N.C.) had two saves in addition to scooping up three ground balls. MIT collected 22 ground balls and Wellesley had 13.

The Engineers led by 15 after one half with Rabenold and Thomas both earning hat-tricks before the end of the second. After MIT tallied seven more unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters, Tipton had a pair of shots find the low corners of the net for Wellesley. 

The Engineers earned the No. 1 seed in the NEWMAC and will await the NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Championship bracket to find out their next opponent.
