MIT Downs Blue Lacrosse

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT scored early and often in a 23-3 NEWMAC victory over Wellesley College lacrosse at Jack Barry Field on Saturday.

Sophomore Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) led the Engineers (8-1 Overall, 3-0 NEWMAC) with seven goals and an assist. Junior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) chipped in seven points (four goals, three assists). Senior Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) also had four goals. First year Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) won a game-high six draw controls. Sophomore Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) and first year Christina Fradella (Massapequa, N.Y.) combined for five stops.

Sophomore Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) tallied a pair of goals for the Blue (2-7 Overall, 0-3 NEWMAC). First year Amelia Dupont (New York, N.Y.) recorded a pair of assists and classmate Katie McCabe (Jupiter, Fla.) added a goal. Junior Anna Tutek (Trumbull, Conn.) scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Junior Cianna Salvatora (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) both made five saves for Wellesley.

MIT led 7-0 after one quarter and extended its lead to 14-1 by halftime. The Engineers scored nine more goals in the second half while the Blue had a goal in the third and fourth quarters.

MIT held a 43-12 shot advantage. The Engineers won 20 draw controls and limited the Blue to eight.

Up next, Wellesley hosts Wheaton at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3. That game is part of Earn The W Day. The Engineers are at Emerson for a 6:00 PM game that same day.
