WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Gabrielle Shell (Columbus, Ohio) recorded a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists to lead Wellesley College lacrosse to a 19-11 NEWMAC victory over Mount Holyoke College during Senior Day on Saturday at Butler Stadium.

Prior to the game, Wellesley (3-12 overall, 1-8 NEWMAC) acknowledged Shell (Columbus, Ohio) and classmate Willa McGough (Plainfield, N.H.) for their contributions to the program. McGough added a hat trick, finishing as one of seven Wellesley players with at least one goal in the contest.

Sophomore Finley Tipton (Coppell, Texas) added four goals and now has a team-leading 50 goals on the season. Tipton's 50 goals are the most for a Wellesley player since Dacia Persky '19 scored 64 goals in the 2019 season.

Senior Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) tallied seven goals to lead Mount Holyoke (1-15 overall, 0-9 NEWMAC). Junior Ella Phillips (Sandwich, Mass.) added a pair of goals and sophomore Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) had a goal and an assist.

Shell and McGough continued the Senior Day celebration by scoring the opening two goals of the game as Wellesley jumped to a 5-3 advantage in the opening quarter. The Blue went on to run the advantage to 11-5 by halftime. The Blue scored five consecutive goals during a second quarter run to take a six-goal advantage, opening and closing the run on goals by Shell. Shell and sophomore Phoebe Calero (Havre de Grace, Md.) each scored twice during the five-goal outburst with Tipton adding the other.

The Blue went on to lead by as many as ten goals in the third quarter, taking a 15-5 lead when first year Lillian Games (Wayne, Pa.) scored back-to-back goals. The Blue carried the ten-goal advantage into the fourth, leading 17-7 when Tipton scored her fourth with 1:06 left in the third. Hannah Bission and Mount Holyoke outscored Wellesley, 4-2, in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to overcome the Wellesley advantage as the Blue closed out the 19-11 win.

Mount Holyoke first year goalkeeper Syd Baker (Needham, Mass. ) made nine saves as Wellesley finished the contest with a 35-18 advantage in shots. Wellesley sophomore Anna Blake Patrick (Portland, Ore.) made six saves on 18 Mount Holyoke shots to earn the win. The Blue finished the contest with an advantage in the possession game, scooping up 23 ground balls while limiting the Lyons to just 12.

Both teams finish the regular season on Wednesday, April 24. Wellesley heads across town to Babson for a 4:00 game. Mount Holyoke hosts Springfield at 6:00 PM.
