Cerda Saves Eight as Blue Soccer Ties Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Wellesley College soccer team kicked-off on Saturday, battling Seven Sister's foe Bryn Mawr to a 0-0, double overtime draw on the road at Applebee Field.

Wellesley out-shot Bryn Mawr 18-15, but was unable to sneak in a goal. On the other side of the ball, Wellesley goalkeeper Claire Cerda posted eight total saves, earning a shutout.

The Owls best chance to net a goal during regulation came in the 73rd minute when sophomore Marian Slocum's direct kick was heading in the net before Cerda was able to get her fingertips on the ball to redirect it away from the end line. Both teams recorded shots down the home stretch but were unable to find the back of the net.

In the first overtime, the Owls' Allegra Levy sent a wide-open look just left of the net in the 97th minute. In the second overtime, Bryn Mawr's Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins took a pass at the top of the box that nailed the crossbar and ricochet straight down but never cross the end line.

The Blue almost broke the tie in the second overtime, as well, when Chelsea-Ann Patry hit the cross bar with just over five minutes remaining.

Today's match-up was the first time that the Blue and Owls faced off on the pitch in 15-years. The last time these two school played, Wellesley defeated Bryn Mawr 4-0.

Wellesley continues its road trip tomorrow, battling Swarthmore in the Swat Kick Classic at 1:00pm. Bryn Mawr also plays Sunday at 1:00pm, hosting Misericordia.
