Late Goal Dooms Blue Soccer Against Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – A 68th-minute goal proved to be the difference maker, as the Wellesley College soccer team was upended by Swarthmore on Sunday at the Swat Kick Classic. The loss dips Wellesley to 0-1-1 to start the season, while the Garnet improved to 1-1 in 2012.

Amanda Bosworth's score at 67:46 broke a scoreless tie and ended up being the only goal of the contest. Bosworth connected on an assist from Tazmin Bailiff-Curtis converting a corner kick into a 1-0 advantage.

Swarthmore outshot the Blue 12-8, with the Garnet also holding a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Wellesley's offense was led by Emily Wilson who fired off three shots, while Chelsea-Ann Patry had two late chances, with one being denied by the Garnet kicker and the other sailing wide.

In goal for the Blue, Claire Cerda made five saves in 90 minutes of work. Her Swarthmore counterpart, Reba Magier, needed just three saves to earn the victory.

Wellesley is back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to Endicott for a 7:00pm start.
