Soccer Grabs Double-Overtime Win at WPI

Worcester, MA --- Senior forward LJ Foster scored at 106:19 as visiting Wellesley claimed a 2-1 double overtime decision in a NEWMAC women's soccer matchup on Saturdayafternoon at Alumni Field.

The Blue improve to 7-7-2 overall and is now 4-1-1 in league action, while WPI dips to 8-5-1 on the season and 2-4 in NEWMAC play.

Following a long goal kick, sophomore Abigail Hess flicked the ball to Foster, who raced down the field and knocked home the game-ending goal as the WPI goalkeeper was in the process of smothering the ball.  The goal kick originated just after WPI's  Courtney Langley sent a game-winning bid just wide of the net following a nifty give-and-go with Megan Forti.

Seniors Natalie McMillian and Forti combined to score first tally of the game just 3:50 into the contest as McMillan headed home Forti's corner kick. Wellesley had a golden opportunity to level the game at 1-1, but Foster's shot caromed off the crossbar at 26:44.

Langley attempted to give the hosts a two goal advantage only to have her bid glance off the iron in the 56th minute. Fifteen minutes later, sophomore Abby Aldridge evened the game at 1-1 off a feed from freshman Kyla Petrie. Late in the 85th minute, freshman Adrianna Rosario had her shot scooped up by WPI goalkeeper Maddie Willer. The Engineers had a pair of shots in the 89th minute as freshman Erin Bracken hit the crossbar and sophomore Julia Macleod was stopped by Wellesley sophomore netminder Kat Goldsmith.

The first overtime saw Wellesley take two of the three shots on goal including a late bid in the 99th minute by freshman Francesca Lapsley. Each team then had a shot go wide in the second overtime session leading up to Foster's heroics.

Goldsmith collected a game-high eight saves while Willer totaled five stops. Each team took 17 shots as the Blue held a 2-1 margin in corner kicks.

Both teams continue their NEWMAC schedules with road games on Tuesday.  WPI heads to Northampton to take on Smith at 3:45pmwhile Wellesley returns to Worcester to face Clark at 6pm.
