Wellesley, Western New England Play to Scoreless Tie

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College soccer played to a scoreless tie with visiting Western New England College on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Wellesley moves to 7-2-2 on the season following the result.

Claire Cerda, pictured, made one save in goal for the Blue before being replaced by Kat Goldsmith after halftime. The two combined for the shutout as Goldsmith went untested during both the second half and overtime periods.

Brianna Kubik made 16 saves to earn the shutout for the Golden Bears, who now stand at 4-4-3 on the season.

The Blue carried the play throughout the contest, registering 22 shots to just 1 for the Golden Bears. The Blue also totaled 10 corner kicks to just one for the visitors but the Western New England back line never broke despite the consistent pressure from the Blue.

The Blue's best chance of the game came at the end of the first overtime period as Kyla Petrie launched a free-kick attempt from just outside the penalty area over the outstretched arms of Kubik, but also just over the crossbar.

Wellesley will now look to Saturday at 4 PM and a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference match-up at Wheaton. Western New England will also return to conference play on Saturday when they host the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference clash at 2:30 PM.
