WELLESLEY, Mass. – 110 minutes wasn't enough time to decide a winner, as Wellesley College soccer and Smith College played to a 1-1 tie in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Wellesley Athletics Fields Complex.

Wellesley holds at 7-5-3 overall, moving to 2-4-2 in conference play while remaining unbeaten in their last three NEWMAC games. The Pioneers are now 7-5-4 on the year and 3-2-3 in the NEWMAC.

Smith opened with a 6-2 edge in shots in the first half, including a 4-0 lead in shots on goal, but neither team was able to take a first half lead. The Pioneers finished the contest with a sizable 15-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

A scoreless opening half gave way to a pair of second half goals, as the visitors were the first to get on the board when junior Jackie Foody (Weston, Mass.) put away her fourth goal of the season in the 60th minute.

Foody's marker was the only shot to beat Wellesley goalkeeper Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) in the match, as the Blue senior recorded eight saves. In the Smith goal, first year Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass.) made one save in the second half and added another in the first overtime period.

Wellesley continued to trail until the 82nd minute when a shot from sophomore Melise Knowles (Diablo, Calif.) caught the underside of the cross bar before bouncing in to tie the game, 1-1.

Neither team registered a shot in the final minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime. In the first overtime period, Biasin denied an attempt by Wellesley senior Juliette Fry (Atlanta, Ga.) and Goldsmith turned aside a bid from Smith first year Isabella Ayvas (Waldwick, N.J.) to keep the score at 1-1.

In the second overtime, a late corner kick for the Pioneers provided the best opportunity to win the contest but Wellesley shut down the Smith attack with under 30 seconds to play as the match ended in a tie.

Both squads will continue NEWMAC play on Tuesday afternoon. Wellesley will host Coast Guard at 3:30 PM and Smith will travel to Mount Holyoke for a 6:00 PM contest.
