No. 5 Wellesley Soccer Set To Face No. 4 Springfield In NEWMAC Tournament

No. 5 Wellesley travel to No. 4 Springfield College for the quarterfinals of the 2017 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship on Tuesday, October 31.

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 5 Wellesley College soccer will travel to No. 4 Springfield College for the quarterfinals of the 2017 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Championship on Tuesday, October 31. Game Time is 7:00 PM.

The NEWMAC women's soccer championship consists of seven teams that will compete for the crown which will begin on Tuesday, October 31st with the quarterfinal round. With a 9-0-1 conference record, MIT has secured the top seed in the championship and a first round bye and will host the semifinal and championship rounds.

No. 4 Springfield (6-4-0) will host No. 5 Wellesley (5-4-1) in the first postseason meeting between the two institutions since the 2009 NEWMAC Semifinals, where the Pride earned a narrow 1-0 victory. Springfield defeated Wellesley earlier this season, taking a 4-1 win on October 7 on the Blue's home field. Sophomore Emily Tran (Vienna, Va.) and the lone Wellesley goal in the setback.

In other quarterfinal match-ups, No. 2 Wheaton (8-2) will take on No. 7 WPI (4-4-2) and No. 3 Babson (5-2-3) will battle with No. 6 Clark (4-4-2). The winner of Wellesley at Springfield will face MIT in the first semifinal at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 4, with the winners of WPI at Wheaton and Clark at Babson battling in the second semifinal at 1:30 PM.

The semifinal winners will then compete for the NEWMAC crown at MIT on Sunday, November 5, at 1:00 PM.
