WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Three different Engineers tallied a goal, as MIT took down Wellesley 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue fired up seven total shots with four going on goal in the loss.

Wellesley drops its second game of the past three, and fall to 5-3-2 overall and 1-3-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. MIT remains perfect in the NEWMAC at 6-0-0 and improves to 14-0-1 overall.

The Engineers opened up with two corner kicks and a shot on goal within the first five minutes of the contest, but were unable to capitalize. Just over a minute later, Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) scored the game's first goal for MIT off an assist by Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.). It was the seventh goal of the season for Groff and the Engineers held an early 1-0 lead.

With just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Rowlett found the back of the net of an unassisted goal. The sophomore sent it in with her left foot over the Wellesley keeper Kendall Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.) and MIT took a 2-0 lead. First year Marleigh Ausbrooks (Washington, D.C.) had a chance to bring the game within a goal just before the half ended, but pushed her shot just wide right.

At the 56:10 mark in the second half, Maya Nielan (Danville, Calif.) tacked on the third goal for MIT off a corner kick by Groff. The second goal of the year for Nielan gave MIT a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Wellesley's Remi Fernandez (Valencia, Spain) and Jusrin Padam (Lexington, Mass.) each put up a shot in the second half, but found no luck as the Blue fell 3-0.

Dagny McCullumsmith (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Abby Couture (Sugar Land, Texas) each fired up a shot on goal. Kendall Lincoln recorded four saves for the Blue. On the other end of the pitch, goalkeeper Lauren Castle (Ridgefield, Conn.) saved all four shots faced in the shutout.

The Blue will hit the road for a match with Babson on Wednesday, October 20, at 3:00 PM. Undefeated MIT will play this Saturday at Emerson College with kick-off at 1:00 PM.
