Sangston, Zeng Lead Wellesley Soccer Past Mount Holyoke, 2-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Seniors Paige Sangston (Greenwich, Conn.) and Cindy Zeng (Mill Creek, Wash.) each scored second half goals to give Wellesley College soccer a 2-1 win over NEWMAC foe Mount Holyoke on Wednesday at Wellesley Fields Complex.

After a scoreless first half, Sangston put the Blue (3-3-2 Overall, 2-1-1 NEWMAC) on the board at the 55:47 mark with a shot from the right side of the box that tucked into the bottom left corner. Junior Carrie Huang (Seattle, Wash.) earned the assist on the play.

At the 57:36 mark, Zeng doubled Wellesley's lead with a left-footed shot from the top of the box that sailed past Mount Holyoke's goalie and into the lower right part of the goal.

The Lyons (2-5-2 Overall, 0-4-0 NEWMAC) cut the deficit in half at the 59:13 mark when sophomore Charlotte Moynihan (North Attleborough, Mass.) connected on a kick from outside the box that curled into the lower right corner of the goal.

Wellesley outshot its counterparts 23-9 and the Blue took four corner kicks while holding the Lyons to one corner kick. Sophomore goalie Riley McNair (Cupertino, Calif.) stopped four shots for Wellesley and sophomore Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) earned five saves for Mount Holyoke.

Wellesley and Mount Holyoke both play on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 PM. The Blue travel to Coast Guard and the Lyons will host Babson.
