Blue Squash Falls to Tufts to End Regular Season

Blue Squash Falls to Tufts to End Regular Season

BELMONT, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team dropped a 7-2 match to Tufts University in their regular-season finale on Friday night at Belmont Hill School.

With a modified line-up due to an injury at the top of the ladder, the Blue got wins at two and three, but Tufts came away with the victory. Four matches went to at least four games in a tightly contested battle featuring the #23 (Tufts) and #24 (Wellesley) teams in the latest College Squash Association rankings.

The Blue's winners were sophomore Emma Haley and first-year Lilly Tyson. After falling behind 0-2, Haley won a marathon five-game match at two, 11-13, 6-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-6. Tyson was a 11-6, 11-5, 12-10 winner at three.

Juniors Margo Sulmont and Emaline Surgenor each took their matches to five games before falling, while junior Cara Kaufman's match went four games.

Wellesley finishes the regular-season with an 11-13 overall mark, with the win total the most since the 2003-04 season.

The Blue now look ahead to the CSA National Championships, where they will likely compete in the "C" division for the Walker Cup. The event will take place at Harvard University and full draws will be released Monday or Tuesday.
