Wellesley Squash Falls to BC in Season Opener

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team suffered a 6-3 loss at the hands of Boston College on Friday evening at Dana Hall School in Wellesley. The match was the season opener for both teams. 

BC dominated the bottom half of the line-up, sweeping the six through nine matches, en route to the victory. Wellesley fared well at the top of the line-up, picking up their wins at one, four and five.

Juniors Rosemary O'Connor and Haley Vasquez, and first-year Gabriella Wynne, accounted for the Blue's points. O'Connor won 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 over Lilly Havens at one, while Vasquez picked up an 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 win over Maddy Bette at four. At five, Wynne picked up her first collegiate win with a 11-3, 11-7, 11-5, win over Courtney Alpaugh.

Two other matches were close for Wellesley, as senior Emaline Surgenor lost a five-set marathon at six, and first-year Charlotte Benishek fell in four games at nine.  Surgenor came out on the wrong end of her match 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, 11-4, 7-11, while Benishek fell 5-11, 11-5, 9-11, 3-11. 

Wellesley is back in action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Northeastern at 2:00pm at Dana Hall School.
