Blue Squash Defeats Northeastern

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team picked up its first win of the 2012-13 season, with a commanding 7-2 victory over Northeastern University on Saturday afternoon in Wellesley. The Blue now move to 1-1 on the season, while Northeastern is 0-1.

Wellesley picked up wins in all but the third and eighth spots to clinch the team victory.

At one, Rosemary O'Connor won her second straight match with an 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 win over Jenny Janeck.  At two, Margo Sulmont was a 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5 winner over Olivia Simone. 

Playing four for Wellesley, Haley Vasquez also picked up her second win of the season, taking an 11-2, 11-6, 11-6 match over Carly Evans. At five, Gabriella Wynne defeated Amanda Georgescu, 11-0, 11-2, 11-9, while at six, Emaline Surgenor allowed just eight points against her, winning 11-1, 11-2, 11-5.

Wrapping up the bottom flights, Cara Kaufman was an 11-3, 11-6, 11-9 winner at seven, while Charlotte Benishek was an 11-5, 11-5, 11-4, winner at nine. 

Wellesley is back in action on next weekend at MIT, playing in a round robin tournament.
