Wellesley Squash Falls in Narrow 5-4 Match Against Tufts

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wellesley College squash team lost a heartbreaker, 5-4, to Tufts University on Wednesday evening in a match hosted by MIT. The loss dips the Blue to 1-6, while the Jumbos improve to 1-1.

Wellesley picked up wins at three, four, five and seven, while going to four games in two other flights during the close match.

Junior Haley Vasquez earned an 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 win at three, while first-year Gabriella Wynne was a 11-4, 11-5, 11-7 winner at four. Senior Emaline Surgenor won a tight match, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, at five, while sophomore Alexandra Spiliakos, rounded out the winners with an 11-5, 11-2, 11-7 win at seven.

Wellesley first-year Mollee Jain won her exhibition match at 10, recording an 11-8, 11-7, 11-2 victory. Meanwhile, two Wellesley loses were tight, as first-year Kate Loftus went four games with her opponent at eight, and senior Cara Kaufman was on the brink in every game, falling with tight scores of 12-10, 12-10 and 12-10.

Blue squash is back in action this weekend, traveling to the Wesleyan Round Robin to take on Wesleyan and William Smith.
