Wellesley Squash Tops Northeastern to Close Regular Season

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team continued their hot streak with an 8-1 victory over Northeastern University on Tuesday evening. The win lifts the Blue to 8-13 overall.

Wellesley picked up wins in the top two spots in the line-up and then swept the four through ninth positions to earn the team victory.

At one and two, junior Rosemary O'Connor and first-year Gabriella Wynne each gritted out 3-2 victories over tough opponents. O'Connor was an 11-8,6-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-3 winner, while Wynne won her match, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 2-11, 11-4.

In the last six spots in the line-up, Wellesley surrendered just one game, to wrap up the victory. At four, junior Sara Del Balzo earned a 3-0 sweep, while at five, junior Haley Vasquez won, 3-1.

At six, seven and eight, senior Margo Sulmont, sophomore Alexandra Spiliakos, and senior Emaline Surgenor each posted 3-0 wins. Wrapping up the match, senior Cara Kaufman won by default at nine, and first-year Kate Loftus won her exhibition match at ten.

Tonight's match marked the end of the 2012-13 regular season for Wellesley. The team will next compete in the women's college team championships, at Yale University. Full draws will be announced in the next few days.
