Seniors Shine But Wellesley Squash Falls to Mt. Holyoke

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Wellesley College squash team dropped a close 6-3 match to #20 Mount Holyoke on day two of the 2013 College Squash Association (CSA) national team championships.

Wellesley now moves to the #23-#24 playoff to face Connecticut College on Sunday at 2:00pm.

Like the last time Wellesley and Mount Holyoke met, the Lyons dominated the top of the line-up, while the Blue played solid at the bottom. Mount Holyoke swept the one through five matches, winning the first three, by 3-0 sweeps.

Wellesley picked up its wins in the six, eight and nine spots, as each of the Blue's three seniors nabbed victories. At six, Margo Sulmont won 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5, at eight, Emaline Surgenor won 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, and at nine, Cara Kaufman won 8-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9. 

At four and five, juniors Sara Del Balzo and Haley Vasquez each took their games to four, before dropping 3-1 matches.

Wellesley's Alexandra Spiliakos narrowly fell in her seventh flight match, coming up on the wrong end of a 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7 marathon. At 10, first-year Kate Loftus kept her match close, before falling, 11-9, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10.
