Blue Squash Tops #22 Colby; Falls to #17 Wesleyan and #18 Bowdoin
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team went 1-2 at the MIT Round Robin this weekend playing three opponents ranked ahead of the #23 Blue in the national rankings. Wellesley picked up a victory over #22 Colby College, and fell to #17 Wesleyan University and #18 Bowdoin College.
This weekend's results even the Blue's season record to 4-4.
Wellesley grabbed its win on Sunday night in a thrilling 5-4 victory over Colby. The Blue got wins from senior Rosemary O'Connor at one, first-year Meera Nayar at three, first-year Kelsey Burhans at five, senior Haley Vasquez at seven, and first-year Navisha Gupta at eight.
In a close 6-3 loss to Bowdoin, Wellesley grabbed wins at seven, eight, and nine, while also picking up a win in the exhibition match at ten. Vasquez won for the Blue playing seventh, while Gupta won at eight. Sophomore Kate Loftus picked up a win for the Blue at nine, while first-year Ruby Feng won her exhibition match.
Against Wesleyan, Wellesley fell 8-1. The Blue got on the board in the eighth spot where sophomore Gabriella Wynne won a thrilling, five-game match.
Wellesley squash is back in action on December 7th, playing at the Wesleyan Round Robin.
