Wellesley Squash Splits at Wesleyan Round Robin

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Wellesley College squash team split a pair of matches at the Wesleyan Round Robin on Saturday. The Blue picked up a 9-0 sweep over William-Smith to open the day, and then fell 6-3, in a tight match to Mount Holyoke to wrap up action.

Today's results evens Wellesley's season record to 5-5.

Against William Smith, the Blue earned sweeps in eight of the nine matches. At one, Wellesley senior
Rosemary O'Connor outlasted her opponent in five games, while at two, Sara Del Balzo began a streak of  Blue sweeps with a 3-0 win. First-year Meera Nayar was a 3-0 winner at three, while at four, senior Haley Vasquez also won, 3-0. 

At five, sophomore
Gabriella Wynne won her match, 3-0, as did first-year Rhea Advani at six. Wrapping up the ladder, first-year Kelsey Burhans won 3-0 at seven, first-year Navisha Gupta swept at eight, and sophomore Kate Loftus won 3-0 at nine. 

Wellesley also grabbed a pair of exhibition wins against the Herons. At ten, first-year
Ruby Feng was a 3-0 winner, while at 12, sophomore Mollee Jain was a 2-1 winner. 

Against Mount Holyoke, the Lyons were able to grab a 6-3 win using strong play at the top of the line-up. Mount Holyoke grabbed wins in the first through five spots, while the Blue won three out of the final four matches in the ladder. 

At six, Wellesley's Advani won her match, 3-0, while at seven, Burhans also picked up a 3-0 win. At nine, Loftus was a 3-0 winner, giving the Blue their final point of the match.

Wellesley had several other matches stay close, including number eight where Gupta narrowly fell 3-2. Elsewhere, O'Connor (#1), Vasquez (#4), and Wynne (#5), all took their matches to fourth games, before falling 3-1.

The Blue won all three of the exhibition matches against the Lyons, as Feng 
won 3-0 at 10, junior Sarah Tammaro won 3-0 at 11, and Jain was a 3-0 winner at 12. 

Today's round robin closed out the fall semester of competition for the Blue. Wellesley will return to action in January, first competing on the 21st at MIT against Boston College.
