Blue Squash Tops Northeastern for Fourth Straight Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Wellesley College squash team won its fourth straight match, topping Northeastern University, 8-1, on Wednesday evening at MIT.

The win lifts the Blue to 9-5 on the season, while Northeastern slips to 1-10 with the loss.

Wellesley won in the second through ninth spots in the line-up, earning all eight of its wins in three games. In five of the eight victories, the Blue surrendered less than five total points against them.

Playing two for Wellesley, senior Sara Del Balzo recorded a 3-0 win, while at three, first-year Meera Nayar was also a 3-0 winner. At four, senior Haley Vasquez dispatched her opponent in three, while sophomore Gabriella Wynne won her fifth flight match, 3-0.

At six, first-year Navisha Gupta cruised to a 3-0 win, while sophomore Kate Loftus grabbed a 3-0 win at seven. First-year Ruby Feng allowed just three points against her in the eighth spot, while junior Sarah Tammaro was equally as dominant in her 3-0 win at nine. Wellesley also claimed an exhibition win, as sophomore Mollee Jain was a winner at 10.

The Wellesley College squash team is back in action this weekend at the 2014 Seven Sisters Squash Championships. Wellesley will open with a 10:00am match against Smith, and then take on Mount Holyoke at 11:30am. The event is being hosted by Smith College.
