PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Wellesley College squash team opened play at the 2014 College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships with a hard-played 7-2 loss to #19 St. Lawrence.
Today's result dips the #22 Blue to 13-6 overall. The team will move on to the consolation bracket to face #23 Mount Holyoke tomorrow at 11:30am.
St. Lawrence lived up to its national ranking, winning all but the fifth and sixth flight matches. Wellesley grabbed wins from first-years Rhea Advani and Navisha Gupta.
Advani picked up her win at five, handing Brittany Coxe an 11-8, 11-6, 11-2 defeat. Gupta rebounded from an opening loss to finish off Sarah Neilson, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7, 12-10.
At eight, sophomore Kate Loftus kept her match close against Carolyn Fisher. Down 0-2, Loftus battled back to tie the match at 2-2, before surrendering in a tight fifth game that finished 13-11.
Elsewhere, Wellesley sophomore Gabriella Wynne took a game off of her fourth-flight opponent, while senior Haley Vasquez kept her match close, nearly winning the third game that finished at 12-10.
Wellesley will be facing Mount Holyoke for the third time this season. The teams split the first two meetings, with Mount Holyoke winning 6-3 in December, and Wellesley taking the February meeting, 6-3.
