Squash Wraps Up Play at Middlebury Round Robin

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Wellesley College squash concluded play at the Middlebury College Round Robin Tournament on Saturday, playing a pair of matches versus Franklin & Marshall and Hamilton after taking on host Middlebury on Friday afternoon.

The host Panthers got the better of the Blue on Friday, taking a 9-0 victory in the opening match of the weekend. Junior Gabriella Wynne made the Blue's best bid for an upset, dropping the first game of her match 11-8 before eventually falling in three games to Lucy Bostwick (11-8, 11-2, 11-6). The hosts earned 3-0 victories in each matchup.

The Blue opened Saturday with a match against Franklin & Marshall, again falling by a 9-0 margin. The Diplomats, currently ranked 13th in the College Squash Association (CSA), also swept to 3-0 victories in every matchup. F&M is currently the highest ranked team on the Blue's schedule this season.

Wellesley dropped another 9-0 final in its last match of the weekend versus Hamilton. However, the Blue dropped the three and four match-ups in close decisions, as sophomore Rhea Advani was defeated 3-1 and Meera Nayar lost a hard fought 3-2 decision.

Advani dropped the first game in her match-up with Elizabeth Morris before bouncing back to take the second game by an 11-8 margin. In a back-and-forth third game, Morris scored the final two points to take a narrow 12-10 win before closing out the Advani with an 11-2 victory in the fourth game.

Nayar also dropped the first game in her matchup with Isabelle Weisman, coming back to take the next two by identical scores of 11-9. With Nayar now leading, Weisman responded with an 11-6 victory to set-up a deciding fifth game. In the fifth game, it would be Weisman's turn to take an 11-9 victory, as she earned the three games to two victory.

The Blue will now play Colby at Harvard on Friday evening before taking on Bowdoin and Bates next Saturday.
