No. 19 Tufts Takes 7-1 Victory Over No. 26 Wellesley Squash

WELLESLEY, Mass. – No. 19 Tufts University cruised to a 7-1 victory over No. 26 Wellesley College squash on Wednesday evening at the Dana Hall School's Shipley Center Squash Courts.

The Jumbos snapped a three-match skid with the victory, improving to 15-6 overall. Wellesley is now 4-9 on the season following their second-straight setback on their home courts.

The lone Blue victory on the evening came in the No. 2 match, where first year Eva Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Tufts first year Claire Davidson (Newport, R.I.) 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 15-13). Despite Mullarkey's win, Tufts won three of the first four matches played to take a commanding 3-1 lead.

In a No. 4 matchup between Southern California natives, first year Sarah Tirmizi (Los Angeles, Calif.) shook off an opening game defeat to Wellesley first year Eunbie Coe (Los Angeles, Calif.), before going on to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9). The Jumbos also secured wins at No. 6 and No. 8, as sophomore Sinlair Meggitt (Princeton, N.J.) defeated sophomore Lumi Kinjo (Tokyo, Japan), 3-0 (11-5, 11-5, 11-6) at No. 6 and first year Katie Deveaux (Simsbury, Conn.) downed junior Audrey Fok (Great Neck, N.Y.), 3-1 (11-1, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8) at No. 8.

The Jumbos closed out the win with a sweep of the second flight of matches. At No. 1, Claire Davidson (Newport, R.I.) defeated Wellesley senior Meera Nayar (Chicago, Ill.), 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 11-2), while sophomore Chista Irani (Mumbai, India) topped junior Meredith Curry (Medfield, Mass.) 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-5) at No. 5 and junior Gabi Salomon (Stamford, Conn.) swept Elena Ubeda (Natick, Mass.) (11-4, 11-3, 11-0) at No. 9.

The final match of the evening was played at No. 3, where Tufts sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringshauser (Boston, Mass.) held off a rally from Wellesley senior Ruby Feng (Old Lyme, Conn.) to earn a 3-1 (11-5, 14-12, 11-13, 11-4) victory.

Wellesley will take part in the annual Seven Sisters Championship this Saturday, February 11, at Mount Holyoke College. Tufts will host Boston College in their regular season finale on Sunday, February 12, at 4:00 PM.
