Wellesley Swimming & Diving Falls to MIT
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team fell to NEWMAC-rival MIT by a score of 232-68 on Wednesday evening at Chandler Pool. Wellesley's record dips to 2-1 with the loss, while MIT starts the season 1-0.
Wellesley first-year Keelin Nave led the way for the Blue, finishing in the top-three in three different events. The rookie took second in both the 200-fly (2:17.77) and in the 100-free (56.52). Nave also placed third in the 100-free (56.52). Her times in the 200-fly and the 100-free were just over a second off the pace of the first place finisher.
Sophomore Virginia Hung and senior Dana Dutton also had strong meets for the Blue. Hung recorded two third-place finishes, while Dutton recorded a second place finish. Hung took third in both the 200-fly (2:23.42) and the 400-IM (5:01.89), while Dutton placed second in the 1,000-free (11:20.39).
Rounding out the swimming action, senior Allie Williams and first-year Anne Hamilton both recorded third place finishes for Wellesley. Williams placed third in the 200-back (2:18.66) while Hamilton touched third in the 500-free (5:27.90).
In the diving events, the Blue were paced by first-year Hayley Goydan and sophomore Kathryn Goffin. Goydan took third place on the 1-meter board with a season-high of 205.58 points, while Goffin also recorded a season-best, tallying 175.35 points on the 3-meter board.
Wellesley is back in action at home on Saturday, hosting Simmons College in a dual meet beginning at 1:00pm.
