Swimming & Diving Swims Past Simmons

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team swam away with a victory in a meet on Saturday afternoon at Chandler Pool.  The Blue defeated Simmons College 209-86.

The Blue's first-years helped lead the way to their third win of the season. Mariam Amirkhanashvili placed first in both the 50-back (31.41) and 50-fly (29.01). Gabriela Kovacikova earned her first collegiate win while swimming her lifetime best in the 200- back with a recorded time of 2:19.39.  She also placed second in the 50-back (31.69).  Anne Hamilton took first in the 200-free (2:01.80) and second in the 100-free (56.99). First-year Megan Lambert also had her first collegiate win in the 200-breast with a time of 2:43.42. In the 50-free she took second with a time of 37.01. For the 1-meter diving event Hayley Goydan took first place for the Blue scoring 203.02 points.

Also swimming strong for the Blue, was senior Alex Cahill who placed first with a time of 2:29.44 in the 200-fly. Junior Stephanie Welch finished first in the 500-free (5:36.54). Sophomore diver Kathryn Goffin scored 187.47 in the 3-meter dive earning second place.

For Simmons College, diver Amanda Dirksmeier took first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 210.14, while placing second in the 1-meter dive tallying 194.84 points. The Sharks had first-year swimmer Molly Bohannon finish second in the 200-fly (2:29.60) and senior Nellie Jackson taking second place in the 50-fly (29.95).

Wellesley's swim team will travel to Tufts University on Saturday for a meet at 7:00 pm while the diving will be hosted at the Chandler Pool at 7:00 pm.
