Blue Swimming & Diving Falls at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - In a special 19-event meet between rivals Tufts and Wellesley on Wednesday night at Hamilton Pool, the Jumbos pulled away with a 172-117 victory over the visiting Blue.

Wellesley's lone event victory of the meet came in the 100 freestyle when first year Mariam Amirkhanashvili took first place in a time of 56.15.  

Behind Amirkhanashvili, Virginia Hung posted two second place finishes on the evening.  She swam a time of 2:23.94 in the 200-fly, and later posted a time of 1:04.23 in the 100-fly. 

Wellesley's 200-free relay team also had a strong swim, as Amirkhanashvili, Karina Chung, Anne Hamilton and Dana Dutton finished in a time of 1:43.99. 

Dutton took second individually in the 500-free, finishing in 5:26.63, while Melanie Kaplan also posted a runner-up finish, recording an 11:16.58 in the 1,000-free.  Rounding out the swimming action, Allie Williams took second in the 200-back in a time of 2:18.45.

In the diving events, sophomore Kathryn Goffin had a fantastic evening on the board, coming up with two season-highs. On the 1-meter board, she posted a score of 200.25, which is also a career-best score.  On the 3-meter board, she surpassed her season high by scoring a 199.12. 

Wellesley closes the semester at the Pioneer Valley Invitational hosted by Mount Holyoke on Saturday.
