Blue Swimming Opens 2014-15 Season at New England Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team kicked-off the 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon at the New England Invitational, hosted by WPI on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Dorothy Ren recorded the only Blue victory of the afternoon taking the 50-fly with a time of 26.68. 

Ren was also part of four strong showings for the Blue in relay events. Ren, classmate Charlotte Harris, senior Keelin Nave and sophomore Leah Harris teamed to finished third in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:52.51. They also earned a top-five time in the 200-free relay, finishing at 1:42.43. 

In the 400-medley relay, Ren, Harris Nave and sophomore Sharon Wu earned a third place time of 4:11.00. harris, Ren and Nave also teamed with sophomore Leah Furman to finish fourth in the 400-free relay with a time of 3:42.25.  

Furman also enjoyed a strong showing in the individual events, earning second place times in both the 1000-free (10:53.39) and the 500-free (5:15.71). Wu, Ren and Nave also grabbed second place finishes in individual events, with Wu touching the wall at 28.73 in the 50-back and Ren finishing at 1:01.12 in the 100-back. Nave took second in the 100-fly, clocking in at 1:01.65.

Senior Grace Bachman and junior Erin Yang also grabbed top-five finishes for the Blue. Bachman took fourth in the 100-free with a time of 57.45. Meanwhile, Yang earned fifth in the 100-breast with a time of 1:10.48.

Wellesley swimming and diving will now look to next weekend when they host Clark on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
